Installation of load measuring bolts

Safety instructions

The applicable safety regulations must be observed when installing, commissioning and operating load measuring pins. A load measuring pin may only be installed and commissioned by suitably qualified personnel. Failure to observe the safety regulations can lead to serious injury and damage to property. Before installation, check whether the load measuring pin is suitable for the application. The information in the data sheet must be observed.

Mechanical installation

Load measuring pins are sensitive precision transducers. Never use a hammer for installation! Impacts and environmental influences such as vibrations, wind forces and increased temperatures can falsify the measurement result and even destroy the load pin. The force to be measured should be the only force acting on the load measuring pin and should always be in the direction indicated by the force arrow engraved on the face.

The load measuring pin must be secured against axial displacement and rotation. An axle holder is used as standard for this purpose. See also DIN 15058.
To ensure accurate measurements, all moving parts (deflection pulleys, cable guides) should always be well lubricated. No maintenance is required for a properly installed load measuring pin.

The connection cables for load measuring pins from VELOMAT are supplied with a PVC outer sheath as standard. For higher demands on chemical resistance, UV resistance, abrasion resistance, ... the connecting cables can also be supplied with a PUR outer sheath on request. If PUR does not meet the requirements, the connecting cables must be laid in protective conduits.

For load measuring pins with bridge output, the connecting cable should not be longer than 3m. If this is not sufficient, a measuring amplifier must be connected in the cable.

The connecting cables must be laid separately at a sufficient distance from high-voltage or load cables.

Causes of failure

Load measuring pins are robust machine parts that will function perfectly for years if installed correctly without maintenance. The following influences can lead to early failure:

  • Overloading with forces above the specified maximum service force, due to impulse forces or torques.
  • Moisture in the load pin
  • Chemical influences
  • Welding work in the vicinity of the load measuring pin (with current flow through the measuring cell)
  • Overheating
  • Damage to the connection cable
